About the Film:

The film adaptation of Richard Wagamese’s award-winning novel Indian Horse is a moving and important drama that sheds light on the dark history of Canada’s Residential School System and the strong spirit of Indigenous people.

Indian Horse brings fresh Indigenous talent to the big screen such as Sladen Peltier, Ajuawak Kapashesit and Edna Manitowabi. As well as other familiar Indigenous stars such as Forrest Goodluck (The Revenant), Michael Murphy (Away From Her), Michael Lawrenchuk (Tokyo Cowboy), Johnny Issaluk (Two Lovers and a Bear) and Michiel Huisman (The Age Of Adeline).

What the author has to say:

“It has been a pleasure developing Indian Horse with Screen Siren Pictures who were extremely dedicated to maintaining the integrity of the story of Saul Indian Horse and the screenplay reflects that devotion. It’s a powerful, stark, touching and empathetic retelling of my novel.”

Richard Wagamese, Author of the novel Indian Horse

Sharing the Story Indigenously:

“For the filmmakers, cast and crew, it was an emotional, moving and inspiring experience. Some moments were tremendously difficult to watch and many of them cried tears at many of the scenes.  Hugs and laughter were part of their daily lives too. The love and support for each other and the connection that they were making something important was palpable every moment on set. The filming experience changed lives. It changed the way many of the crew from Toronto, BC, Quebec and other places experienced Indigenous culture and it created new opportunities for many Indigenous people within the communities they were shooting in.”

Christine Haebler, Producer of the film Indian Horse
