Onkwehón:we The Original Peoples Festival

Festival Season is upon us as we head into the summer months this June!

Releasing their official schedule, the Woodland Cultural Centre is giving us our first look at what to expect and look forward to from their new Onkwehón:we The Original Peoples Festival scheduled for June 15-17th 2018. Many of the events over the 3-day festival weekend are held on site at the Woodland Cultural Centre, with a special few presented at other locations around and within the Haudenosaunee Territory of Six Nations of the Grand River.

Many of the events and cultural workshops highlight both local and nationally known Onkwehón:we artists such as; Murray Porter, Don Burnstick, Bear Fox, and many more!

Community Members, Visitors, and Festival goers can enjoy events such as traditional Haudenosaunee workshops to learn more about various cultural practices, art forms, etc. While also having the opportunity to take in some of the featured talent known for their musical and performance skills with Live Music, Performance Art, and Comedy shows.

The Gathering Place by the Grand is excited to host Falen Johnson’s play TWO INDIANS, as part of the festival, with two shows over the weekend on June 16th at 7:00pm and June 17th at 2:00pm with tickets for sale at $20 per person.

The weekends’ jam packed schedule looks to have something that everyone in the family will enjoy, while showcasing the best of what Onkwehón:we Peoples and the rich culture we have to offer through traditional, contemporary practices and mediums.

We look forward to enjoying the festival this upcoming weekend as a way to showcase and celebrate Onkwehón:we The Original Peoples of Turtle Island.
